New CEO for Ports of Jersey appointed

Ports of Jersey is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Thomas as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Matt will join the company in July 2019 from the Shannon Group in Ireland, where as CEO, his remit includes the development of the Airport and its Aviation Services Centre, along with the development of the company's extensive land and property holdings and the operation of Ireland's largest portfolio of tourist attractions.
Matt has also worked for the globally recognised Vantage Airport Group, where he held CEO and commercial management roles in Vancouver, Larnaca and Liverpool airports. In Vancouver, he played a leading role in winning the $4 billion redevelopment contract of the Central Terminal at LaGuardia Airport in New York, the largest airport public-private partnership in the United States. Prior to this, Matt worked with Macquarie Airports in Newcastle and Copenhagen.
Announcing the appointment, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Ports of Jersey, Charles Clarke said: "We are delighted to have secured a CEO with the strong track record that Matt brings and look forward to working with him on the development of Ports of Jersey"
In accepting the appointment, Mr Thomas said: "I'm excited to be coming to Jersey at this time and to have the opportunity to share my experience with Ports of Jersey. I'm looking forward to working with my new colleagues, the Board of Directors and all of the stakeholders to ensure the continued success of Ports of Jersey".
The appointment comes following an extensive recruitment and selection process overseen by the Jersey Appointment Commission. Mr Thomas succeeds former Ports of Jersey CEO, Doug Bannister who stepped down in December 2018. Alan Merry, the company's Director of Strategy & Development will continue in the role of Acting CEO until Mr Thomas joins the organisation.
