25-year lease agreement on development of garage site

From Jersey Airport,
03 January 2018

A 25-year lease agreement has been reached between Ports of Jersey and Roberts Garages Ltd in relation to the forecourt/car sales site on l'Avenue de La Commune in St Peter. This follows an open tender process launched by site owners, Ports of Jersey, which attracted a great deal of interest and subsequent submissions.

Subject to planning approval, Roberts Garages plans to redevelop the existing 50,000 square-foot site and in its place create a multi-point fuel station with accompanying retail store, car wash facilities and Auto Centre.

On behalf of Ports of Jersey, Group Property Manager, Paul Griffin says, "After a thorough tender process we are pleased to have reached agreement with Roberts Garages Ltd. This will allow us to maintain a retail fuel offering at the airport in conjunction with developing facilities and services for the public in the west of the Island. This significant investment by Roberts Garages Ltd clearly demonstrates its commitment to Jersey and desire to deliver internationally recognised products and services in the local environment".

On behalf of Roberts Garages Ltd, Managing Director Ricky Davey, says, We are thrilled that Ports of Jersey has entrusted us with this opportunity on l'Avenue de la Commune, for which we have exciting plans, and which represents a considerable investment for Roberts. As we will be celebrating our 60th year of trading in 2018, this opportunity to develop such a key location in the Island comes at an ideal time for the company. Once built, this site will be the flagship for Roberts Garages and as such will be built to the highest environmental standards. With such a strong following of loyal customers, we are continuously asked to provide similar offerings to our current sites out to the west of the Island and I am pleased we can now meet this request".

Redevelopment of the site is likely to begin in 2018. The former lease expired at the end of 2017.
