2019 air passengers figures highest in almost 25 years

The number of air passengers
travelling through Jersey Airport in 2019 have risen for the sixth consecutive
year with 1.715,952m passengers recorded last year, the highest level since 1995.
Air passenger numbers have been steadily
growing year on year since 2013, increasing by almost 275,000 and in summer
2020 is due to be served by almost 40 departure points across the British Isles
and Europe with both scheduled and chartered flights available.
Many of regions have once again
reported growth on the previous year, including the north west (+14%), the
south west (+5%) and the London market, which includes Gatwick, Southend, Luton
and London City also reporting a +5% increasing, carrying in excess of 819,000
passengers in 2019. The inter-island routes also enjoyed a 17% rise, carrying
an additional 15,000 passengers during the year, which was recorded at 105,328.
Group CEO for Ports of Jersey, Matt Thomas, has welcomed the
latest air passenger numbers and says, “We are really pleased to have delivered
a sixth consecutive year of growth in passenger numbers through Jersey Airport. The connectivity provided by the airport is
crucial, for our tourism industry, for business and importantly for residents
who can enjoy regular access across mainland UK. Our route development team at Ports of Jersey
works closely with Visit Jersey, Government, tourism and business associations
to sell Jersey as a destination to airlines.
In a very competitive market, these figures demonstrate that this Team
Jersey approach is clearly working”.
