Ports of Jersey will be taking part in the annual Embrace the Difference event tomorrow (Tuesday 3rd December) after its Positive Partnership for change submission with community partner, AllMatters Neurodiverse (AMD), impressed the judges of the Government of Jersey Disability Team.
Ports of Jersey is a community partner of AllMatters Neurodiverse, a charity that supports people who are neurodivergent, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurological differences. They will be reflecting this collaboration as part of tomorrow’s event. Ports of Jersey and AMD have been working together to make travel easier for everyone.
Head of Sustainability and Community Value, Sophie Alexander, said: “Connecting our Island and supporting our community is integral to the way we operate. We took over the assisted travel function in April and have received some amazing training from Penny at AllMatters Neurodiverse to give us lived experience of what it is like to travel with neurodiversity. Since April our front-line team has been learning how to ease the journey through the airport, and we have received many compliments about the new service. We recognise that everyone’s needs are different, which is what we try to deliver to our passengers each day.”
Embrace our Difference 2024 is an annual celebration of diversity and inclusivity being held at the Radisson Hotel, which is due to be attended by at least 50 local charities and organisations. The event will provide opportunities to connect with others who share a vision of a more inclusive world, and will showcase the inspiring work being undertaken by third sector organisations to support people with disabilities. This year’s focus is on the power of collaboration in fostering greater inclusion.
The aim of the event is to:
- help build an environment that is inclusive and welcoming
- ensure everyone is recognised, respected, accepted and understood
- give people with disabilities equal opportunities
