Using a drone
Drone use is growing at a rapid rate across the UK and our skies are some of the busiest anywhere in the world. When you fly a drone or any unmanned aircraft in the Channel Islands, it is your responsibility to be aware of the rules that are in place to keep everyone safe.
It is illegal to fly a drone within a restricted airspace zone without prior permission from Air Traffic Control (ATC).
However, getting permission from ATC does not automatically allow a flight to take place. Drone operators must comply with all applicable regulations and get any additional permissions required.
Steps in the Civil Aviation Authority’s Drone Code include:
- Don’t fly near airports or airfields
- Remember to stay below 400ft (120m)
- Observe your drone at all times – stay 150ft (approx 50m) away from people and property
- Never fly near aircraft
- Enjoy responsibly
