Work will shortly begin on the installation of a new radar system at Jersey Airport, as part of Ports of Jersey’s ongoing programme of investment and renewal in critical airport and airspace infrastructure.
The project forms part of a wider programme to maintain and modernise elements of the surveillance infrastructure supporting air traffic services across the Channel Islands.
Keith Attwood, Head of Airport Operations at Jersey Airport, said: “Air traffic services across the Channel Islands are supported by a resilient network of radar systems, which comprise of radar sites in Jersey and complementary infrastructure in Guernsey. The radar at Jersey Airport is the most visible part of that network, and this project will replace the existing airfield system to strengthen Jersey’s surveillance capability.
“We are pleased to have reached this stage of the project and to see installation work begin, with completion expected by summer 2027.”
The investment will help ensure that Jersey’s surveillance infrastructure remains supportable, reliable and fit for the future.
