Ports of Jersey is funding a community mural organised by the Art in the Frame Foundation, a registered charity. The artwork will be painted this Saturday by artist Vince Talcone, along with a group of school children. It will be based on a smaller piece which was designed by the artist.
Art in the Frame applied to Community Boost for funding for this large-scale mural at the entrance to Jersey’s Harbour Gallery. The resulting work will brighten up the communal area outside the courtyard with a mural entitled, ‘The Sky, the Sea and the Harbourside’.
Ports of Jersey’s Head of Sustainability and Community Value, Sophie Alexander, is unveiling the mural on Easter Monday at 3pm, and she said: “We are delighted to have supported the mural through our Community Boost initiative. It’s really special that each young person has contributed a small, unique part, and those smaller contributions have combined together to create something so beautiful. Hopefully they will feel proud showing their masterpiece to their families and friends on Monday.”
Art in the Frame’s Managing Director, Pat Robson, said: “We would like to give a very big thank-you to Ports of Jersey who have sponsored these walls, especially at such an important time for us. We are moving into our second birthday year, having reopened in our new home on 25 April 2023.
“As well as unveiling the mural, we will also be opening our second birthday exhibition, ‘All at Sea’, on Thursday next week. It features the art and craft work of more than 20 local artists, some of whom are our regulars, while others are new to the gallery.”
Ports of Jersey’s Deputy Harbour Master, Louise Stafford, will be officially opening ‘All at Sea’ at 6.30pm on Thursday 24 April.
The money contributed by Ports of Jersey’s Community Boost went towards the wood panels and paint for the mural.
