Improvements for arriving passengers

Published: 21 February 2025

Ports of Jersey is announcing further developments in its plans to upgrade the airport and improve passenger journeys with enhancements to the arrivals and parking areas in front of the terminals.

Building on recent announcements of a new family area and a new route to Paris, Ports of Jersey is planning improvements to the arrivals experience for passengers, using the space vacated by the dismantling of the former hangar in front of the 1937 building. The proposed changes will enhance facilities for people using all forms of transport.

The airport plans to open up the area outside arrivals, providing improved public areas with runway views, a new space for hire cars closer to the terminal and a better waiting environment for passengers using buses. The reconfigured landscape will have defined areas for pedestrians and vehicles which will provide a better, and safer, overall arrival experience for visitors and Islanders. Traffic calming measures will also be installed to ensure that the 5,000 vehicle movements a day happen as safely as possible for all road users.

As part of the planned restructuring, new cycle storage will be provided as well as an improved cycle route into the airport. This will encourage active travel to and from the airport for those who choose this form of transport.

Pick up and drop off for hire cars will move closer to the Arrivals building into a designated zone and Ports is also hoping to attract new hire car operators who will increase the number and types of vehicles available for hire. This will support Jersey’s offering for tourists who want to hire a car for their holiday.

Ashley Maggs, Airport Director said: “The dismantling of the former hangar has enabled us to rethink the whole Arrivals experience for our passengers. As people exit the terminal, there will be more open space with views of the runway and sheltered places to wait for onward transport. We want a wider variety of hire cars available for hire, including electric and wheelchair-friendly vehicles. It’s an exciting time for the airport and I hope passengers will enjoy the public areas we are creating for them.”
