Jersey Airport has shared an update on its major investment in the Departure Lounge, announcing that there are seven weeks remaining until the first phase of the new facility is expected to begin welcoming passengers.
The first phase of the transformed Departure Lounge will offer a more spacious, comfortable and contemporary environment for passengers, featuring an improved layout, expanded seating areas and a new mezzanine level with runway views.
The design was developed with representatives from charities, business, tourism, heritage, arts and passenger groups, to create an authentic Jersey Sense of Place, celebrating the culture and natural beauty of the island.
Features include wicker Jersey cows, striking aerial imagery of the island, a Martello-inspired lift tower, skylarks flying overhead and a family area themed around Plémont Bay, designed with the team from Brighter Futures. From the materials and textures used throughout the space to its carefully chosen colour palette, every detail celebrates Jersey’s culture, heritage and natural beauty.
Matt Thomas, Chief Executive at Ports of Jersey said, “Every week brings us closer to opening a Departure Lounge that will massively enhance the experience for our passengers, while showcasing the very best of Jersey.
“From the wonderful design features through to the smallest finishing touches, it has been a privilege to work with incredible partners from across the island to create a space that celebrates Jersey, while providing a more enjoyable and comfortable start to every journey.
“We can’t wait for our passengers to see the new Departure Lounge and would like to thank our partners at Ashbe Construction and everyone involved for the tremendous effort that has brought us to this point.”
The project forms part of Ports of Jersey’s continued investment in improving customer experience and enhancing the island’s critical infrastructure.
Matt added, “This project is about much more than creating a beautiful space for our passengers. Behind the scenes, substantial investment has been made in the 30-year old infrastructure that supports the airport’s long-term future, including improvements to heating, ventilation and other essential systems.”
Plans are underway for the new facility to become operational towards the end of the week commencing 9 November, subject to final testing, and operational readiness activities.
Looking ahead to 2027, the transformation will continue and passengers can look forward to an enhanced food and drink offering, whether that’s a pre-flight cocktail, a relaxed meal, or simply a coffee and pastry before boarding. Further improvements will include a larger Assisted Travel Lounge, a refurbishment of the main toilet facilities, and a retail store showcasing the very best of Genuine Jersey produce.
